To celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Beethoven we have invited Jessica Duchen to read extracts from her recent book ‘Immortal’ , the mystery of Beethoven’s lost love whom he called ‘Immortal Beloved’.  The readings will be interspersed with Beethoven piano music from Piers Lane, including the following pieces:

  • Bagatelle Op. 126 No. 3

  • Piano Sonata Op. 81a, ‘Das Lebewohl’, first movement

  • Piano Sonata Op 54, first movement 

  • Andante favori - extract 

  • Piano Sonata Op. 57, ‘Appassionata’, first movement 

  • Piano Sonata Op. 78, ‘A Therese’, first movement 

  • ‘Nimm sie hin denn, diese Lieder’ from An die Ferne Geliebte, transcribed by Franz Liszt

  • Piano Sonata Op. 110, complete
