Hell Hath No Fury is a concert programme that has been carefully put together to create a unified theatre-piece. The concept is born of the material: throughout the 17th and 18th centuries (and indeed in our era, note Britten’s Phaedra and Maxwell-Davis’ Eight Songs for a Mad King) the solo cantata was a highly popular form, at that time usually featuring women famous from either classical mythology or ‘histories’, whose story-lines gave composers a chance to explore extreme states of emotion. Thus the form was a sort of mono-opera, and The Complete Singer cast of young and talented artists work together to create an intense and varied theatrical / musical experience.
