A programme of works by Ravel and Liszt
Paul became known to millions of television viewers last year as MP Dianne Abbott’s patient and skilful piano tutor in BBC2’s Play ItAgain. He is a versatile and energetic pianist and writer, teacher and lecturer. His speciality is the music of the French Impressionists, and he has extensively written about and recorded the work of Ravel and Debussy, his recent new biography of the latter receiving great praise. He has performed at Australia’s Sydney and Brisbane Conservatories, and in Europe is a regular guest at the Stockholm and Malmo Academies, and the University of Alcala, Madrid. He has performed widely in the US, and given masterclasses at the Juilliard School, New York, and the Peabody Academy, Baltimore. He has been Artist in Residence at Portland State University in Oregon, appearing annually at the Portland International Piano Festival. In France he has directed the international piano summer school, Music at Casteifranc, for twelve years. He also teaches at London’s Guildhall School of Music and is visiting professor at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester.
